Melrose Place
[Lexi's Apt] Michael declares Tony dead. "Are you sure sure sure?" Lexi asks. Of course he is, and he reminds Lexi he plays a doctor on TV. Lexi explains that Tony was getting a little frisky, mentioned he had a heart condition, and how she saw him pop a couple of sex enhancing pills (which would bring the tally to 4, considering Tony popped a couple in the living room before Lexi saw him). "I'm calling 4-1-1. I need the number to the morgue" Michael tells Lexi. You'd think he'd have that number memorized by now, after all the countless patients of his at Wilshire Memorial who've suffered the same fate that this show will experience next week. Then Lexi remembers the contracts Tony just signed, and figures the cops will think she coerced Tony into the deal and then killed him. Michael immediately wipes his fingerprints from the phone and starts to leave, explaining this is the last thing he needs right now. Lexi decides they must get Tony's body back to his mansion, along with the contract papers, so it'll look like he signed them there before dying. Lexi begs for Michael's help, which he agrees to, but only after Lexi promises to give him anything he wants. They dress and drag Bernie, I mean, Tony across her living room and out into the entry, but stop when they see Eve tossing all of Peter's belongings into the pool. Being the landlord, you'd think Lexi would get upset and tell Eve to stop. Instead, Lexi offers to help. And is Eve serious, throwing everything from Peter's toothbrush to his sofa into that chlorinated sea. When she tosses his golf clubs in, the scene becomes unbelievable, even by Melrose standards. I mean, I can see Peter leaving Eve, his wife, but he would never have separated from his golf clubs! Anyway, while Lexi helps Eve, practically naked except for a pair of work boots, Michael grabs a conveniently located shopping cart, obviously abandoned by a homeless bum, and wheels Tony's body from the courtyard.
[Tony's Mansion] Michael and Lexi transport Tony's body using Tony's Towncar. In the street, I look around for Tori Spelling, cruising by sporting a new boob job, wondering what color her hair is this week, but there's no sight of her. The two cohorts get Tony propped up nicely in the chair in his office and the contract papers on the desk, when they hear a noise. They spin the chair 180 degrees and hide. It's the chambermaid, who tells Tony, to his back, that she'll be waiting for him in her bedroom for what French maids "do best." She leaves, and Michael and Lexi add the finishing touches, placing a pen in Tony's hand, now beseeched with rigor mortis. Then Lexi stumbles on a pile of papers, which she discovers are dossiers on everyone Tony's done business with, including Eve and Amanda. Michael suddenly stops. "Wait. I know what I want from you" He gets on one knee and proposes to Lexi, saying "We are soul mates..." I don't know about that, but if they don't escape soon, at least they have a chance at being cellmates. When Lexi realizes Michael is serious, she goes over to him and gives him some tongue worthy of an X-rated porno. The two start get horizontal, ready for some desk sex, as Tony sits in the foreground, with such complacency even Bernie would be proud.
[Lexi's Apt] Michael and Lexi are laying in bed, going through the dossiers, reminiscent of Matt's diary entries from the beginning of this season. Michael thinks Tony was paranoid to conduct background checks, showing just how much business savvy he has. They're snooping gets interrupted when they hear a special news bulletin on the TV reporting that Tony Marlin's body had been found in his home. The news report continues saying from bruises on the body and the back of the head from Lexi's stairs, rug fibers from Lexi's apt embedded in his hair and clothes, and scrape marks on the backs of his heels from being dragged around a brick-floored courtyard, the LAPD has concluded that Tony died of an apparent heart attack. Lexi and Michael celebrate, Lexi showing him just what she did to Tony to cause him to "buy the farm."
[L.A. County Courthouse] Peter has Eve meet him at a "neutral place" to discuss the terms of the divorce. But Eve goes haywire, snapping at Peter. He apologizes, saying he never meant to hurt her. Amanda arrives and hugs Peter, and when Eve sees the pose they're in, she suddenly has one of those Melrosian flashbacks. How do I know? Because #1) it's in black and white; and #2) it's accompanied by that all-too-irritating screeching sound effect. Eve suddenly recalls the day she was convicted, and as she was being escorted out of the courtroom, how she saw Amanda hugging some other male figure, the same way she's hugging Peter now. One thing I got to say, Amanda sure hugs guys awkwardly...
[Wilshire Memorial] Lexi stops by Dr. Visconti's office, plops herself down on the couch, and starts caressing her thighs. Why she's there, who knows, other than to announce that Mrs. Marlin is honoring all of Tony's contracts, including hers for the ad campaign. But soon, Lexi starts talking about men she's pursued, and finally asks the question, "Louis, what's wrong with me?" So Visconti tries out a new technique he saw on an episode of "The Pretender," where the doctor has the patient close her eyes and let her mind relax. Visconti explains that emerging from the darkness will be the face of her true love. Since the special effects guys have the black & white processor out anyway, they decide to use it here and make Lexi's thoughts appear before our eyes. Lexi's mind rifles through the catalog of men she's bopped, when suddenly Peter pops up. Literally. Lexi runs out. Then Peter asks Visconti to speak with Eve, saying she is having a hard time with the divorce. Visconti tells Peter to have Eve call him, but Peter explains that Eve won't listen to him, and asks if Visconti could casually drop by the club and offer her a little "innocent guidance." Visconti says he'll see what he can do, adding, "Innocent does not inexpensive make."
[Upstairs] Beth Nielsen Chapman is this week's musical guest, but unfortunately, her music gets drowned out when Visconti "drops" in and sits the bar, saying he's sorry for her breakup and offering his services. "What is it, on the nightly news?" she snaps. Visconti says, "I can squeeze you tomorrow" (A common Freudian slip by psychiatrists.) He tells Eve to come by tomorrow around 11:00, if she wants.
[Ryan's Apt] Ryan enters, announcing that a package arrived for Terry. It turns out to be an offer package from some job she applied for, even though she claimed the school had rejected her application. Ryan demands to know what's going on, so Terry answers, "I love you, all right? Now leave me alone." Ryan looks at her perplexed, since he was just referring to the package he was holding. Ryan responds, "I know that you have feelings for me, but it doesn't mean you love me." Terry goes on to explain the samo-samo, boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy and girl marry, girl's sister falls in love with boy as well and harbors feelings for boy for years until girl out of picture. You've only seen it over and over on this show, from Sydney to Taylor. After what seems like hours, Ryan finally says, "I don't know what to say." "That's because you're a McBride" she explains. When Ryan turns around to face Terry again, she is without Terry robe. If he was speechless before, now he's dumb for sure, and she grabs him and starts licking the sweat that's formed on the edges of his lips. Of course, this is the perfect time for Megan to enter without knocking, which she does. She sees what's going on, and leaves, figuring this is simply Ryan's modus operandi. She calls the wedding off.
[Megan's Apt] Terry apologizes to Megan, explaining "I had no idea I was going to attack Ryan like that." You know how those things just happen! Terry admits she loves Ryan, but since he loves Megan, and there's really not enough time to plan an elaborate scheme to steal Ryan away from Megan, that she is planning on going back to NY to continue her life.
[Wilshire Memorial] Eve is in Visconti's office describing what happened to her the day before at the courthouse. Then, it what may have been a television first, we see a flashback of a flashback, as Eve recalls the courthouse scene in which she recalled her courthouse scene before that! You may ask, if the first flashback is in black & white, would the flashback within the flashback then go back to color? The answer is "No!" Eve describes what happened back in high school., saying "Kent tried to rape Amanda. I pushed him off the bleachers. Amanda went home. I got blamed. Amanda got off." Visconti asks her another question. Eve answers, "Kent tried to rape Amanda. I pushed him off the bleachers. Amanda went home." Visconti notes, "Interesting. You're almost repeating yourself verbatim." Eve fires back, "No I'm not" as if she'd kill whomever said that about her, at the same time wearing the look on her face asking, "What does verbatim mean?" Visconti asks Eve to talk about more people hugging in courtrooms, causing Eve to suddenly "see" who the person was Amanda was hugging that day 15 years ago. "It was Kent's father, Mr. Damarr." She has a look of terror on her face. You would too, if you saw how sick it looked to see Amanda hugging this wrinkly old man. Visconti then suggests he place Eve under hypnosis, but this scares Eve, and she bolts out of his office, running into Lexi and Michael in the hallway. When Lexi sees how vulnerable Eve is right now, who knows what sort of info she can get out of Eve, by pretending to be her friend.
[Kyle's the Restaurant] Ryan's just finished a job interview over lunch. The interviewer pulls out his cell phone and says he's going to call the office. Then, out of habit, the guy walks over to the pay phone to make his call, where he probably struggled trying to find the slot in the cell phone to insert the coins. While the interviewer is away, Megan shows up to apologize. The interviewer returns, informs Ryan he's got the job, and asks if he could start tomorrow. Ryan replies, "How about I start in Episode 227, because I'm getting married on this one?"
[Wilshire Memorial] Visconti finds Amanda waiting for Peter in his office. Visconti wants to interview Amanda about the high school and the Damarr death, hoping to get a reality check on the events. Amanda says, "Kent tried to rape me. Eve pushed him off the bleachers. I went home." Visconti, remembering how much trouble he had when he used the word "verbatim" with Eve, states, "Interesting, That's exactly what Eve said. Almost word-for-word." Amanda says it must be true then and leaves. She steps into the hallway and breathes a sigh of relief.
[Eve's Apt] Lexi pays Eve a visit, under the pretense of being a friend by giving her the dossier that Tony had on her. Then Lexi suggests that maybe Amanda was such a good friend all these years because she had an ulterior motive, that just maybe, Amanda is guilty of something and is trying to cover it up. Again, we hear that sound annoying effect, trumpeting the beginning of another flashback. And again, just so we're not confused, it's in black and white. This time, Eve remember Amanda shaking her and repeating "Kent raped you. I went home. You pushed the body into the ditch" until Eve got it straight. Then the flashback shows Eve standing under the bleachers and a shadow hovering over the ditch, but Eve says she can't remember this part. Eve tells Lexi that Visconti wants to hypnotize her in order to reveal the truth. Lexi agrees, telling Eve she should do whatever it takes to show what a bitch Amanda really is. Eve, staring blankly at the lighting crew, mumbles "Amanda went home. Amanda went home." Lexi tells Eve what hotel Amanda's staying at.
[Kyle's the Restaurant] Kyle and Jane go downstairs from Upstairs to meet Ryan, Megan, Sarah, and Terry. Jane comments about how she's glad she's not getting married anytime soon, and Kyle agrees. They arrive at the dinner table, just as Terry is saying farewell to everyone. Her plane leaves at midnight, so she won't be able to attend the wedding. Sarah is sad to see Terry go, saying "I miss you already, aunt Terry." Terry, a wreck, can barely say her lines, as she promises to return at the end of summer, if the show's demise has been greatly exaggerated. She tells everyone not to say good-bye, then leaves for LAX. "Good-bye" say the McBride brothers, in unison. Outside the restaurant, Terry's face turns cold and emotionless, with hints of psycho killer deux q'est-ce que c'est.
[Bel Air Park Hotel, Bungalow 27] Peter and Eve are at her room at the hotel, the insides reminding me a lot of her old apt. Peter tells Amanda he's going to be generous to Eve, giving her half, if not out of guilt, then by law. Then they make couch potato love while music from Beth Nielsen Chapman plays in the background. Eve pays Amanda a visit, but when there's no response to her knocking, she peeks through a window to the bungalow. What she sees causes her to flashback again. As Eve watches Peter grinding on top of Amanda, Eve suddenly recalls one night on Lover's Lane back in high school, when she just happened to be walking alone from car to car (was she lost, or possibly just looking for someone whose blow-up doll had a leak?), when she came upon Kent's car. As she neared his convertible, she saw Kent grinding, in the exact same position as Peter is now. And who was it underneath Kent? None other than good ol' Amanda. Eve gasps, "She cheated on me. Amanda and Kent." Hmm, now I'm confused. Who was going out with whom back then?
[Beach] Kyle and Ryan are walking along the surf together. Ryan notes, "Jane seems pretty tight." Kyle replies, "Ohh, it feels so good!" Then Kyle adds, "I've been thinking about my other relationships... Taylor, Amanda, but Jane's different." (What about Jennifer?) Kyle says with Jane, he doesn't feel like he has to be anyone special, that he just has to "be." Ryan says he feels like that with Megan, so Kyle gives him some advice. "Never keep any secrets if you feel you can just be." They return to the beach house, where they find Jane, who's just taken a pregnancy test which turned a pinkish-blue, meaning she's absolutely pregnant... or not. (Now, I was just joking last week when I made my pregnancy comments, I swear, so please don't write me saying I spoiled yet another episode for you.) Ryan starts to leave, but not before Kyle reiterates that the most important thing in a relationship is honesty. Then he turns to Jane and asks, "Agree?" They hug, but she keeps the test a secret.
[Wilshire Memorial] Eve returns to Visconti's office, submitting herself to hypnosis. Meanwhile, Michael and Lexi have hidden another video camera in the psychiatrist's office and are monitoring the session from another room. Lexi mentions how impressed she is with Michael's expertise in "Evesdropping," despite the fact Michael left the red "recording" light on the camera, which is creating an odd red flashing to emanate from the bookshelf. Still, neither Dr. Visconti nor Eve notice. Visconti hypnotizes Eve, causing her to remember that after she dumped Kent's body into the trench, she hid under the bleachers. She remembers she couldn't remember anything, but then saw a figure approach the trench. Visconti asks "How tall is she? What color is her hair?" Eve says she can't tell because her flashback is too dark. Then suddenly, Eve can see cleary and she says the hair color is blonde, despite seeing things in black & white. Eve then sees the face and says, "It's Amanda! She's standing over the trench! What's she doing there? She told me she went home. She lied to me!" He slowly wakes Eve, but unlike most people who come out of hypnosis, Eve remembers everything and starts asking, "Why was Amanda there? Why?" Visconti calms her down and says, "Tomorrow, I want you to bring in a memento from those days, such as a randy pair of panties you wore under your cheerleader outfit. Something I can touch. Sense memory can be very strong." When Lexi hears this she says, "That's it. That's how I'll pull those memories of Amanda out of Eve. Forget Visconti." Michael stops her, saying, "You've got Amanda's business and her building. What more of hers do you want?" Then he realizes she wants Peter. Lexi confirms his suspicions saying, "He's my destiny." This upsets Michael so much he calls the wedding off. Doh!
[Wilshire Memorial] Peter, in the X-ray room, offers Amanda a job as the "Public Relations Director." Then Dena the nurse makes a cameo appearance, one of her last before the end of the show. She even gets to say a line, garnering her better pay than a non-speaking role. She leaves.
[Ryan's Apt] Peter and Amanda drop by Ryan's place, offering their condolences on their marriage, as well as a gift. Megan invites them to the wedding, but they pass, seeing as Kyle and Jane will be there. So Ryan comments that he hopes they'll at least go to the reception, as if that would be any better than the wedding. Everyone wishes bygones would be bygones.
[Eve's Apt] Meanwhile, Eve is downstairs in her apt, dressed in her cheerleader sweater, busy cutting Amanda out of yearbook photos of the two of them in high school. It looks like Eve has reverted back to her days as a teeny bopper, she's even applied her lipstick like she did back then, almost clown-like. As Amanda and Peter leave, Peter decides to stop and look in on Eve. When there's no answer, Peter invites himself in. Eve hides in the shadows behind the door, holding the scissors as if ready to take the plunge into her former lover. Peter and Amanda figure she's not at home and leave, but not before Lexi catches them in the courtyard and insinuates breaking and entering. Then Lexi peers through Eve's blinds, and sees the poor little girl, dressed in pigtails as if impersonating Demi Moore, not only in looks but in acting skill as well. Lexi sees Eve through the window shades, and gasps, "Oh my God. Look what Amanda's done to you." Then Lexi takes Eve back to her place for the evening.
[Lexi's Apt] The next morning, Eve is back to normal and she thanks Lexi for taking care of her, although if Lexi could do something about Eve's nasal congestion, Eve would be even happier. Eve mentions she has another appointment with Visconti, but Lexi suggests Eve go to directly to Oakhurst instead, in order to evoke the memories buried deep inside her. When Lexi volunteers to accompany her, Eve smiles and says, "You'd really do that?" Lexi shakes her head and answers, "Honey, you just remember what really happened and I promise you we'll make Amanda pay."
[Wilshire Memorial] Visconti finds Peter and tells him Eve missed her morning appointment, the one where she promised to bring him something to sniff. For some reason, Visconti thinks this means danger, so he pulls Peter aside and breaks doctor-patient confidentiality, describing to Peter Eve's recollection of Amanda standing over Kent's body in the trench. Peter winces.
[Beach House] Ryan and Megan get married on the beach, with Sarah, Jane and Kyle as witnesses. Whoever said the wind does wonders to your looks, surely didn't see Jane in this scene, wearing her bridesmaid dress. She looks like she's suddenly gained 50 pounds and didn't really need a home pregnancy test to tell her the obvious. Of course, Kyle is totally oblivious to everything, so Jane has nothing to worry about. The minister announces Ryan and Megan man and wife, and as the minister says to Ryan, "Ryan, you may kiss the McBride," Jane pulls Kyle close, almost telling him about her being pregnant. But she refrains, instead asking him to hold her.
[Kyle's the Restaurant] Peter shows up and asks Amanda about the murderous night back in high school. Amanda gets upset, saying if Peter wants this relationship to work out that he had better not bring up this story again. Peter presses, so Amanda repeats, verbatim, "Eve pushed the body off the bleachers, I went home, then Eve dumped the body into a trench." adding that this is the last time she's going to tell this story. The fact that Eve will uncover the truth in the next scene probably has a lot to do with that last statement.
[Harry S. Truman High School] Eve and Lexi walk the grounds of the high school football field. The sense memory kicks in, and Eve starts remembering all sorts of details, like the construction work going on at the time and how she hid under the bleachers after rolling Kent's body into the trench. But then she recalls the biggest shocker this season... Eve remembers seeing Amanda hovering over the trench, and a hand reaching up to her for help. Kent was still alive! But instead of coming to Kent's aid, Amanda took a big stone and hit Kent with it. Like Ritchie Sambora would say, "Rock On!" Still, Eve gasps, "I shouldn't have gone to prison." Then Lexi comes to the conclusion that even someone as dense as Kyle would've reached given the evidence, namely, that Amanda was the guilty one and should've went to jail.
[Jane's Beach House Driveway] Speaking of McBrides, Megan and Ryan are getting ready to drive away on their honeymoon. Jane leans over to Kyle and says, "I have to tell you something." But then she stops again, and you wonder just how long she's going to draw this out. At least the fact that Jane communicates about as poorly as Kyle is a good sign for their relationship, if you believe in the "Likes" attract theory. The next thing you know, Terry shows up unexpectedly and whisks Sarah away in her car. Ryan jumps in his BMW and engages in hot pursuit. The fact that Terry is driving a crummy Ford Escort, while Ryan is driving a nice new expensive BMW convertible, let's guess which car will end up in crashing... Seconds later, your prediction comes true as Terry, who feels it's necessary to actually turn her head 180 degrees in order to talk to Sarah as she's racing through the streets of Malibu, takes a wrong turn and slams head-on into a telephone pole, causing the Escort to assume the shape of an accordion. Obviously, this is Spelling's last attempt at a public service message to buckle up. Will Sarah, who recently broke the record for number of episodes by a minor (previous record was 4, held by Nikki Petrova) before being killed off or deported, be there for the grand finale? Where were Ryan and Megan planning on honeymooning? Will Kyle finish his house by next week? Who will Eve annihilate? (Let's hope it's Aaron). Unfortunately, these questions, along with others, won't be answered until next time.
