What You Should Know Before Continuing...
- It Looks Like You’re the Only One Present - Once you’re in, leave that window alone and stay awhile, so others have the chance to stop in too. In the meantime, you can use the first window to continue surfing. If you enter and then immediately leave, a forum will never happen!
- Does Your Browser Support Java? - The chat room is java-based, meaning you must have a java capable browser, and the browser “Preferences” must have “java allowed” enabled.
- New Window Appears - A separate window will be opened for your chat session. This way, you can chat while you browse other areas of this site. Aren’t we considerate?
- Looks Like Nothing’s Happening - Please be patient! It may take a couple minutes to load the java applet and to get your chatesession logged in. So go grab some Cheetos or make a Pop Tart while you’re waiting.
- What Are Those 4 Buttons For? - There will be 4 buttons at the bottom righthand corner of your chat window. They are the following (left to right):
(1) Say - This is the default setting. When you click on this or hit Return, everyone in the room will see what you’re saying.
(2) Whisper - First you must highlight the person you want to whisper to (the list of participants is on the righthand side of the chat window). Then you click on the “Whisper” button and only that person will “hear” what you’re saying. The “Whisper” button will remain on until you click the “Say” button again.
(3) Think - Type something you’re thinking of, then click this button. Your message will say you’re thinking.
(4) Action - Type in some sort of action and hit this button, and your message will say you are doing that action (Example: If you’re nickname is “Itchy” and you type “scratches his head” in the text field and hit the “Action” button, the message that goes out will say “Itchy scratches his head.”
- Firewalls - If you’re computer exists behind a firewall, there is a good chance this chat room will not work. You will most likely see error messages such as “Transfer Interrupted,” “Failed to connect to server: Unknown Error: java.net.NoRouteToHostException: Host unreachable,” etc. If this happens to you, all I can say is “Sorry about that.”
- I can’t promise who will be here at any given time. Best thing to do is check in periodically. If you live on the West Coast, you can probably find out what’s happening 3 hrs ahead of time from those on the East Coast!
